Ngao Society through its Agribusiness program held a Sustainable Agriculture awareness talk to the Devine Mercy final class Agriculture students. The Agriculture sector is a sector that rarely gets the spotlight, Schools have to take the centre stage all-equipped with pedagogical strategies to lure the youth into agriculture.
Ngao Society Project coordinator, Simiyu, encouraged teachers who handle agriculture-related subjects to level up in nurturing the future workforce that will propel the agriculture sector.
Results from studies on youth engagement initiatives in agriculture show that schools can be used as the nucleus of agricultural extension. Students serve as “infomediaries” who facilitate access to information on cost-reducing and yield-enhancing technologies in agriculture. Other than reading materials, they also access information through the farming Knowledge Banks, online portals on farming, and the SMS-based consultation services for farmers.
